Kellie Magnus
Summer School Lecturer - Introduction to Self-Publishing, Business Planning for the Self Employed
Kellie Magnus is the Editorial Director
at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at the
University of the West Indies, and head of the Institute’s business
unit, CARIMAC.com. In this capacity, she is responsible for the development
of print and multimedia materials based on CARIMAC’s research and
teaching. Kellie also directs the Insitute’s business development
efforts, including its partnership with companies in the media and communication
sector, professional associations and development agencies.
As a former media strategy consultant,
Kellie has advised both large publishing houses and self-publishers,
developing business cases, marketing strategies and for clients in both
categories. She has independently published two children’s books
and was one of the lead developers on the design, marketing and distribution
of Max and Friends, a multimedia package for children with autism.
Kellie has contributed children’s
books (Sunday Dinner; I am Growing; Billy the Bully;
Careful, Carefree; and Doctor Birds) and activity books to
the Ministry of Education’s revised primary school curriculum and
writes regularly on arts, business and the media for numerous Caribbean
publications.
Kellie is a graduate of Harvard and Columbia Universities. Her graduate work at Columbia combined instructional technology and media, with an emphasis on technology and media for children, and the management of information, communication and media resources.
