Ronald Young

CARIMAC Summer School Lecturer - Intellectual Property and Business Law

Ronald Young is into his sixth year of practice as an Attorney-at-Law, having graduated from the University of the West Indies Faculty of Law in Barbados with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) honors degree in 1999. He subsequently obtained his Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in 2001.

Prior to his law degree, Ronald attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with first class honors, from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in 1995.

After completing law school, he spent four years employed to the law firm of Myers Fletcher & Gordon (between September 2001 and September 2005), where he became a senior Associate in the Commercial Department, with emphasis on intellectual property law, entertainment law, telecommunications law and commercial contracts.

For the past year and a half, Ronald has been employed to Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited as legal advisor in the Legal, Regulatory and Public Policy Division, advising on all aspects of commercial and telecommunications law.

Ronald also has several years of experience in the entertainment industry, having focused on artiste development and event management and production prior to entering into legal studies.

He has served as secretary of the Bar Associations Intellectual Property Law Committee, and has been legal advisor to the YMCA and the Jamaica Business Development Centre.

Ronald is presently Deputy Chairman of the newly formed Jamaica Anti-Piracy Alliance (JAPA). He is also a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Association (YEA), from whom his new Company, Aros Entertainment Limited, received an award for its development of a Caribbean stock photography website.

Over the past few years, Ronald has provided legal services for many members of the entertainment industry including the Marley Foundation, Rita and Sharon Marley, playwright Trevor Rhone, classical singer Carole Reid, football star Ricardo “Bibi” Gardner, Producers Arif Cooper and Steven “Gibbo” Gibson, and reggae acts Tami Chynn, Cecile, TOK, Spanner Banner, Shane-O, Roundhead, Gyptian and Roots Underground.
